How to change waveform size in REAPER

If you ever need to see your waveforms bigger, you can hold Shift + ↑ or Shift + ↓ to increase or decrease the waveform height in your tracks.

By the way, this is purely visual. The item won’t increase or decrease in gain. It’s just handy when you’re editing files with very low gain and the peaks are super tiny!

Now while this works great, you may experience that it moves in very small increments. If you want to resize faster, you can create a custom action that repeats the step 5 times per keypress 🚀

Here's how to set it up:

1. Go to Actions > Show action list...
2. Click New action
3. Give it a name, like "Increase waveform size x5"
4. In the action list, search for "Peaks: Increase peaks display zoom for project" and double-click it to add it
5. Repeat that same action 4 more times so it appears 5 times in a row
6. Click OK to save the action
7. In the action list, find your new action and click Add shortcut
8. Assign Shift + Alt + ↑ to it
9. Repeat the whole process for a "Decrease" version using "Peaks: Decrease peaks display zoom for project" and assign Shift + Alt + ↓

Now each keypress jumps 5 steps at a time instead of one.

💡 Use this trick for other slow actions too

This same approach works for any action that feels too slow because it only moves in tiny increments. For example, I have the same setup for the metronome volume. Each step is so small that I stacked 5 of them into a single action just to make it usable.

If you ever find yourself holding down a shortcut waiting for something to change, a custom action like this is probably the fix.
