Let me introduce you to one of the best denoisers I've ever tried. The fact that it's free plugin that comes with REAPER blows my mind 🤯
The plugin name is ReaFIR, and I use it all the time to remove noise from my voiceovers, acoustic instruments, and even noisy guitars. It’s the perfect tool to remove any hum/hiss from recordings, while still sounding pretty natural.

How it works
Using ReaFIR is pretty simple. Here's how you can use it to denoise your audio:
- Load ReaFIR on the track with the item you want to denoise and set it to “Substract mode”.
- Find and make a time selection of a part of the clip where you hear only noise. For example, if it's a voiceover, select only the ambient sound.
- Play that part on loop and click the button that says “Automatically build noise profile” in ReaFIR.
- Let it loop a few times, and then uncheck the button from the step before. This will create a profile of your noise.

Done! Your audio should be super clean now.
TIP: To reduce the intensity, hold Ctrl/Cmd as you drag up and down the noise profile. You can also hold Alt/Opt to tweak the noise profile graph.

Hear the difference
I put together some before and after clips with ReaFIR denoising on and off. I tried it on electric guitar, acoustic guitar and voiceover.
That's it!
I even have super expensive and fancy denoisers in my arsenal, but this one just does a better job a lot of the time. If you're looking for a free and efficient denoiser, I highly recommend giving ReaFIR a try.
